Watch & Notice — Grading Quick Guide

The goal is simple: give students an easy, low-stress incentive to actually watch both lecture videos from start to finish and jot down notes in their own words.

How Scores Map to the Class Curve

Most students who watch both videos earn 10/10. We only deduct when a submission falls well below the class baseline or is clearly an AI summary.

6/10 Limited Missing a video or barely started 8/10 Adequate Thin, lopsided, or skips middle 10/10 Strong (Majority) Covers Beginning · Middle · End of both videos in the student’s own words (typed or handwritten) 5/10 AI Summary Huge study guide not in own words −2σ −1σ μ (avg ~400–500w) +2σ / +3σ Note Volume & Chronological Coverage (Beginning → Middle → End)

What Gets What Score

10 / 10 · Strong Covers the beginning, middle, and end of both videos in the student’s own words (typed or handwritten photos/scans). No required bullet count or timestamps.
8 / 10 · Adequate Both videos are included, but the notes are pretty thin (< −1σ), heavily lopsided toward one video, or skip a big stretch in the middle.
6 / 10 · Limited Missing one of the videos, stops after the first few minutes, or only has a couple of surface-level lines (< −2σ).
5 / 10 · Half Credit AI-generated or transcript-summarized study guide instead of the student’s own notes (e.g., 1,500+ word essays saying “The speaker explains…”).
0 / 10 · Incomplete No submission or an empty/blank file.
